Truth Initiative partners with American Heart Association
Truth Initiative is partnering with the American Heart Association’s (AHA) EmPOWERED To Serve initiative on awareness and prevention activities to reduce the rate of smoking-related heart disease and stroke in the multicultural community.
EmPOWERED To Serve is a national movement organized by AHA/ASA (American Stroke Association) that engages multicultural communities through faith-based groups, advocacy organizations, neighborhoods and colleges with tools and resources designed to help impact health and improve outcomes.
Truth Initiative and AHA/ASA are collaborating to increase awareness about tobacco’s impact, especially on the African-American community, and reduce the prevalence of tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure among students, faculty and staff at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
For the first event in the year-long partnership, Truth Initiative will co-facilitate the tobacco-free advocacy training with AHA/ASA as part of the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Weekend Conference on September 21 to 25.
